Size
Double
pushchairs double are typically more spacious than single ones, especially when they are side-by-side buggies like the Kolcraft Geo 3 or UPPAbaby. The good thing is that this extra width enables them to handle heavier children without straining the chassis. They also have other key features that make them stand out, including spacious pop-out canopies that come with SPF 50 and peekaboo windows as well as swivel lock front tires which help navigate narrow spots such as aisles for shopping; cups with a single parent holder, a smart fold mechanism that can be operated with one hand; and 10-inch back wheels that aren't made for tough terrain but manage city streets and theme parks fairly well.
In terms of cost these kinds of
lightweight twin stroller, side-by-side buggies are surprisingly affordable.
Weight
The lighter a double-buggy is the easier it will be to lift and manoeuvre. The Joie Evalite Duo is a good choice if you need to be aware of weight. It's the lightest in our Lab tests. However, it offers a wide range of features, such as nice-sized pop-out canopies with SPF 50 and windows that peek out as well as a quick-release fold which can be folded flat in a matter of minutes; four-wheel suspension to cope with rough terrain; and an adjustable front wheel that makes navigating tight shops and supermarket aisles easy. It's also extremely affordable at over PS1,000. It can also carry twins or a baby and toddler with the purchase of an additional'sidepack'.
Flexibility
A double buggy is an excellent option for parents with twins, or even a toddler and baby. Narrow tandem buggies can be used to squeeze through
small double stroller spaces. Side-by-side models enable you to keep the eye on your children and keep them safe while you are navigating the grocery store or in the park. Many have a variety of seat configurations so you can adjust them as your child develops. Some even allow you to add a car seat or ride-on board.
The Joie Evalite duo is a great example. It can be used to hold two seats, or a car-seat. The adaptors allow you to convert a single seat to a
thule double stroller in just minutes. It also has a nice-sized pop-out UPF 50+ sunshade that can be used as a canopy and adjustable leg rests, as well as peekaboo windows on both seats and a standing fold that's simple and quick to fold with just one hand; and a top-quality suspension that makes light work of rough terrain.
The iCandy Peach tri-fold buggy is another option. They are great for navigating narrow aisles and doors. They also can easily accommodate twins or a child and a big kid with the addition of UPPAbaby's ‘PiggyBack’ board (which is available separately). They come with a large basket and include all the accessories you may require, including liners and rain covers.
Tandem buggies are generally designed with your children sitting close to each other. This can make them more stable and easier to push on uneven surfaces, however they can be a challenge to maneuver around and over kerbs. They have a bigger footprint than a single-seater and may be too long to fit through doorways.
Comfort
This is among the most comfortable, lightweight doubles we've tested. It has stadium-style seating on both seats, which means your children can take in the view. It also has an enormous UPF 50+ canopy with windows that peek out, a padded toddler seat with an RumbleSeat with built-in adjustable leg and foot rests, as well as cups holder for one parent. Testers are awestruck by the way that the seats recline individually by squeezing the levers under each seat. They also note that the straps are easy to fasten and unfasten with one hand. The handle is simple to turn and makes it easy to fold. It also stores with the backrest raised for easy access.
With 30 different configurations (it'll carry twins as well as a toddler and baby or three kids if you add the option of a "PiggyBack" board) this is a fantastic option for families that want the flexibility to grow with their child. The large basket and soft suspension make it ideal for kerbs, as in the city. It is also very reasonably priced. BabyGearLab recommends it to children between the ages of 6 and 6.
