Choosing a
Double Pram and PushchairA well-designed
thule double stroller pram or pushchair will simplify life for families, particularly on busy streets or in shops and stores. Choose a model that has ample storage space to store nappies snacks, nappies, and other necessities.
Some parents who are new to the world choose a future-proof pushchair that can be used as a single stroller at the time baby is born, and then transformed into a twin-mode after he or she arrives. Joolz provides a variety of these options.
Tandem
The announcement that you're expecting a baby is among the most exciting events in life. Once the excitement has worn off and the reality of the situation begins to set in, you'll be faced with many options for how you can prepare your family. One of the most important things to consider is choosing the
best travel double stroller pram or pushchair.
Tandem prams (also called 'in-line' double prams) are a classic design that feature two seats or pram bassinets that are arranged side by side. The front seat, which is usually cushioned, reclines and is suitable for babies. The second seat is a bit higher and designed to fit toddlers as young as three years. Certain models let you decide if your children will look at each other or outwards. Many tandems can be converted into a single pushchair when your oldest child is no longer in need of the second seat.
A tandem is more affordable than twin prams and is a great option for parents who want to save money, but without losing safety or function. A tandem can be a bit heavy and difficult to steer, particularly when you're tripping over curbs. It is also less stable than twin pushchairs particularly if a larger child is seated in the front. A tandem can be difficult to place on public transport, and it may be difficult to navigate narrow roads.
The iCandy Peach, a popular model that is focused on image, is an excellent option for a single parent who wants an elegant design. However the tandem mode makes it feel heavy and long to push. It comes with an innovative frame that can be expanded to accommodate the second seat, and it is compatible with many combinations of carrycots, buggy chairs and car seats (two at a time or in separate). The iCandy Wave is another lightweight tandem option that's simple to use and compatible with a variety of car seats and carrycots.
Side by side
There are many aspects to think about when selecting a double pram or pushchair. There are a variety of configuration options to choose from, regardless of whether you're purchasing for twins or close-in-age siblings. Tandem prams, also known as side-by-side prams are popular options because they can be set up so that the infant can be seated in the bassinet on top while the older child or toddler is sitting in the second seat.
Some models come with reversible seats, which means you can alter the seating arrangement to suit your family's needs throughout the baby and toddler years. This lets you see your children at all times and allows them to be a part of the journey when they walk.
Tandem prams are often jogging or all-terrain buggies, which means they're ideal for outdoor adventures and the park. These are also good for narrow aisles and checkouts in supermarkets and shops, as they are less bulky.
The Redsbaby JIVE3 Pram, for instance can be used as a tandem pram right from birth in dual mode by adding the use of the rumble seat (PS249). When your child grows out of the rumble seat, you can change to a single pram mode. You can also choose to use the car capsule adaptors to transform it from a newborn to a toddler travel system.
Another option is the Side by Side Pram from Babybee. This side-by-side double pram is available in a range of colors and comes with an attractive modern style. Designed to be used right from birth, you can add the LUNA Cocoon for newborns (PS262) and the LUNA Infant Seats (PS53 each).
If you're looking for a sleek, elegant pushchair that can be converted into a side-by-side double and a side-by-side double, the Egg 2 from Chicco is a great option. It's available in a range of carrycot and infant seat configurations to accommodate twins or siblings of varying age groups. It's also easy to fold. It's also light, making it a good option for those with smaller vehicles or have limited space for storage.
Convertible
Some of the top double prams or pushchairs can be made into various seats to meet your changing needs. There is the possibility of fitting two toddlers in the seats or even a third one on the seat board and have room for a shopping basket and the ability to add additional accessories such as rain covers is another advantage. Typically, convertible double strollers are more spacious and heavier than single pushchairs as they must be able to hold two or more children. The Graco Modes Nest2Grow is one example of a convertible that is affordable which is very easy to use, although our testers thought it was a bit heavy for the price.
Some convertible double strollers like the Baby Jogger City Select 2 come with a carrycot suitable for babies. This helps to reduce the size of the double stroller when not being used and makes it more compact. Our testers were impressed with the City Select's clever one-handed fold. However, it takes some practice. It's also very responsive and nimble in spite of its size.
The Cybex Mockingbird single-to-double stroller is another affordable option. The seat converts from a rear-facing infant car seat to a forward-facing toddler seat, and the bassinet mode is a great choice for infants (although keep in mind that infants under four months old shouldn't sleep in strollers because of the risk of asphyxia in a position).
For greater flexibility, opt for a dual-mode convertible like the iCandy Peach. This is a narrow
double buggy with car seat buggy that can fit two children in a row and can be used as a tandem by the addition of a second-seat kit and rider board. It's nimble and agile, and our testers loved its sleek design. It's not quite as lightweight as the other models we've reviewed, however it does come with a huge basket that is useful for parents who are carrying bags filled with toys and other items.
Lightweight
Convertible double strollers are a great alternative for parents who have a child and expect another. The iCandy Peach can be converted from a single pushchair
cheap double pushchair by the addition of a toddler seat, or the brand's carrycot (which works well to sleep at night). Our testers noted the comfort of the seats and adore the fact that both recline to different positions, feature built-in foot and leg supports and generous UPF 50+ canopy that has windows that peek out. The rear seat can be raised to provide an elevated platform for a child to get on and off, so they can reach things in the basket of groceries.
Cher said that the only disadvantage of the iCandy Peach was its weight. However, she believed this was offset because it is easy to move and offers plenty of storage space with two cup holders for parents and their children as well as seat-back pockets and a large basket under the seat. She also appreciated the fact that the seats are reversible, so they can be placed to face one another for siblings who want to chat and interact together when out and about.
The Delta Children LX Side-by-Side Stroller is a less heavy option and still impressive. It weighs just 18 pounds, is compact, and has self-standing fold, making it simple to transport or put in your trunk. Parents appreciate the quality of the materials and craftsmanship as well as the price is low. The only drawbacks are that the seats don't recline as much compared to other models we've tested and the rear seat is not as visible due to its location - it is raised higher than the first seat.
Another popular choice is the Joolz Geo 3, which is slim and sleek. It is also easy to steer, and comes with an attractive design and lifetime guarantee. While they're smaller than side-by-side strollers, they can be more spacious than tandems and inline doubles. This makes them difficult to maneuver around busy footpaths and in shops. They are also shorter which makes them more maneuverable in tight spaces.
