The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that can see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also quiet and operates when you're at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It comes with advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations thanks to a blend of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot cleaner we tested that could fill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also has an option known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot automatic vacuum cleaner to resume where it left off can be extremely useful.
