The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive counterpart the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have test. They have top-of-the-line motors that can generate up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. And, like other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ smart mapping technology to create precise floor plans and eliminate home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature the feature of Carpet Boost that boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with cameras that let it see the corners of an area.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on very well and can't handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad to a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted area, which helps prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is great for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire home, and it did so with 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of rooms and floors with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was superb and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically empties into its base, and it supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robot vacuum with mop vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxy units, this mop and robot automatic vacuum and mop robot is one of the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite a noisy unit, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take charge of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank and washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of your home depending on how dirty they are.

For larger houses it's worth looking for one that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one particular area of your house by using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also useful. For busy families recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to resume where it left off can be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a rotating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to organize a spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize the most soiled areas for greater efficiency. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums with mop vacuums, which means it can reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It has a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot cleaning that intensely cleans a localized area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed like cute eyes. It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that doesn't double as a bin to empty.
