WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also increases the random substatus.
Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item has low requirements by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a large variance in stats (like eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the need to roll for a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. However, the
item upgrader kit used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.
The cost of upgrading will depend on the current item level of the
Best item upgrade being upgraded but they will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from item upgraders NPCs for a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. button, which will display a preview of the item when it is upgraded in the event that the player has enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the
item upgrader mod slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for instance. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades give discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.
Many locations have upgraders for their items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded, and can be increased by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item Level upgrade (
xypid.Win) upgrader at start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a positive and an issue.
In Season 3, the upgrade system has been tweaked a bit, with some new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain level of
item upgrade for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item level will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items are from a different set of equipment.
The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced also, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.
Crests
Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They come in four ranks.
The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on gear of a specific rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade route costs 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests, based on the type of equipment being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing tasks at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons that have a high difficulty to obtain endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an upgrader for the item such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.
Utilizing these new currencies isn't too difficult, but the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters rather than relying solely on seasonal loot.
Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to make use of them in a responsible manner. It is recommended to use your Whelpling-rank crests on the top-quality equipment that you can find, and save Drake and Wyrm Crests to be used for the next set of upgrades. This is especially relevant for items like rings and trinkets that occupy multiple slots. The account-wide discount is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with top-quality equipment.
