Types of
Hob and OvenA
hob and oven is a common part of most kitchens and can come in a variety of styles. You can also mix different varieties like domino, electric, and gas to suit your cooking needs.
Safety features like child and position controls can be included in a hob. These features can prevent children from accidentally altering the heat setting or touching the hob.
Types
In the heart of every kitchen, the hob is the main focus and plays a significant part in how your cooking is executed. There are many different types of hobs, and which one you pick will depend on the needs of your kitchen.
Gas hobs are the classic choice, and they provide a rapid heating process and instant reaction to temperature fluctuations. Professional chefs favor them because they are precise in their control. However, they are not as clean as other hobs and could require more maintenance.
Electric hobs are made of ceramic with a flat surface with heated elements underneath. They are available in various sizes and have up to six cooking zones. Each zone is equipped with a distinct heating element which you can regulate individually. It is possible to boil potatoes in one ring, while cooking sausages on a different. This type of hob is much easier to heat up than gas, and it offers an alternative that is safer for children since the cooking zone gets hot only when you put a pot on it.
Ceramic hobs offer a stylish and user-friendly option to gas and electric hobs. They have an extremely smooth and durable surface that is easy to clean. However, they are not as fast to respond to temperature changes or to cool down as other hobs.
The Domino hob is an alternative to gas and electric hobs. It incorporates ovens under the cooking surface. They can be installed in smaller kitchens with little space for installation and are suitable for flats and kitchenettes. They are often cheaper than a standard cooker and can be extremely energy efficient however they are also fragile and require more care than other types of cooker.
Gas
Gas hobs are cooktops that have burners that are easily fitted into the kitchen countertop to create a seamless look. Gas hobs are typically powered by LPG or natural gas, but they can also be powered with propane gas. They have a sleek and modern design that can give a sophisticated touch to your modular kitchen.
A traditional gas stove comes with a variety of burners. There are usually four, but there can be as many as six. They are ignited by either the use of a match or the knob. The flames can then be controlled by the valves that can be adjusted to regulate temperature.
However, the majority of modern gas hobs with built-in gas are equipped with multi-flame burners that allow you to manage the outer and inner rings of each burner to manage your cooking. These burners are much faster and more reliable than earlier models.
In the past, it was essential for the gas stove to be constantly lit to ensure that the burners remained hot and fueled. This was done to avoid accidents, such as not turning on the oven when the stove is still lit with the help of a match or a pilot light. Modern cookers have been made with safety in mind as a top priority. They are equipped with a device to stop the flame which shuts down the burners if the pilot light fails

Gas stoves and hobs need to be cleaned, checked and maintained regularly. To do this, you should make an appointment with a Gas Safe registered engineer. They will not only ensure that your appliance is functioning properly, but also give you expert advice on how to avoid any future problems.
Electricity
When it comes time to design your dream kitchen, the worktops, fridge freezer and ovens will always get the most attention, but a quality hob is equally important. If you choose a conventional, induction, or gas cooker, the type of hob you choose will affect how your kitchen functions and how easy it is to keep clean.
Electric hobs use heating elements underneath a smooth glass surface that's typically cleaned using an non-abrasive cleaner. These elements switch on when you turn the hob on and can be adjusted to a variety of power levels by turning or clicking a control knob. It can take them a little bit longer to heat up but once they've done so, they tend to provide better and more consistent temperature control. They also have built-in indicators that inform you when a space is in use or still hot from cooking.
Typically, they come in four to six different sizes of rings that can be cranked up to various levels of power. They are ideal for cookware that is flat, but aren't the
best ovens and hobs option for cast-iron pans as they can overheat. Some models (such as Belling BELCH602T) have dual-ring designs that let you cook sausages and boil water on the same ring. Some models even have a 'boost' function which concentrates high-powered heat onto one ring for stir fry cooking, searing meat or boiling large pots of water.
Induction
hobs and ovens are different from conventional electric hobs because they utilize electromagnetic fields instead of conventional gas flames to heat your cookware. They can reach precise temperatures quicker and are more energy efficient. They feature a cool to the touch surface, and flashing indicators that let you know that a ring has been used or is still hot.
Ceramic
Ceramics can be used to create functional or decorative objects. It is formed by mixing clay, earthen elements powders, water and other elements to an exact shape, and then fired in a high-temperature oven, also known as the kiln. Once it's made it is then covered with paint-like or decorative materials to add colour and texture.
Ceramic hobs are a perfect blend of form and function to create a stunning piece of contemporary kitchen furniture. Radiant heating technology is employed to heat ceramic hobs by passing an electric current through coiled components which are hidden beneath the black glass surface. When they are activated, they produce heat that is then transferred to your pan via an infrared heating system. You can alter the intensity of this heating by adjusting the controls with knobs or buttons.
Some ceramic hobs come with dual ring designs that have one smaller and one larger cooking zone that lets you select the
best oven size for your pan. You can also find hobs with booster burners which produce high-powered heat in a short time ideal for searing meat or bringing pans of boiling water to a boil in a short time.
Compared to other types of hobs, ceramic cooktops typically take longer to warm up and then change temperature however, once they're done they're typically more efficient in terms of energy consumption. You can also opt for vented cooktops that have ventilation systems with the cooktop made of ceramic. This ensures that steam, smoke, and cooking smells don't linger in your house.
Induction
The heating elements in the induction hobs are a series of copper wire coils under the surface that produce electromagnets to heat the pans that sit on them. The coils stir up the free electrons inside your pan's metal base which transmits heat evenly and directly to your food. The surface of the stove is never hot, and the cooking zones are automatically turned off when your pan is removed.
Induction hobs tend to be more expensive than other types however, they're also more efficient to heat and consume 30 to 70% less energy than gas or ceramic hobs. They're also easier to clean because the surface of the hob isn't heated, but the contents of your pan do.
Certain manufacturers provide an induction model that comes with additional features, for instance a pause feature, which cuts the power to the stove when you walk away, or the ability to link two cooking rings simultaneously at the same time for increased flexibility. These are often called FlexInduction hobs. They can be more expensive than traditional models, however they're worth looking into if like to multitask.
This induction hob is our favorite. It comes with four large cooking zones with a Bridge function and nine power settings, offering you plenty of options for those who are ambitious cooks. In our tests, it did well with precise control and rapid heating when making pancakes. The cooker also comes with a built-in dishwasher and an automatic pan detection feature to make cleaning even more simple. There's a limited range of pans that are compatible it cannot be used for cooking with appliances that have a magnetic base. It can be a problem when you have a lot of cookware that's not compatible, or only a small portion of it is compatible with induction hobs.
