How to Replace an
audi connect key G28 Engine Speed Sensor
Charles the Humble Technician teaches how to replace the G28 Engine Speed Sensor. The sensor is situated on the edge of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is located so that it can trigger spark and injectors according to the situation.
If this sensor fails, the ECU will display an error code P00160. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain. However the code will not appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing is a bit challenging since there are two pins for the connector and they serve different purposes however the best method of testing it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read about 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this component, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.
2. Injectors
Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched with gazoline the fourth was dry. When I crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55/30/55/48/55/14/55/48/ i get zero ohm. So i assume the problem is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start if the G28 is disconnected and runs fine when it is connected, but still has intermittent misfire issues at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temp value -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not certain what to do, i think i've pretty much ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 can be activated by a signal by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sensor is the same as the G4 and both function in the 80, 100, 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a
local parts store. Test them out by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black connector's side). They should be infinite ohms.
4. ECU
Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY and ADU) engines are equipped with an ECU that must know the speed and position of the crankshaft in order to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. To do this, it uses a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you have a problem with either of these, the diagnostic scanner will display codes that could cause an engine shut down.
The signs of a failing G28 sensor include an inaccurate rev counter for the gearbox, gears shifting quicker than normal and/or misfiring when in gear. If you experience any of these problems, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and requires
replacement audi keys. They're inexpensive and easy to locate especially in the case of a Bosch sensor like ours. If you prefer, GM's version of this part would be a good option.
5. Tachometer
A failing engine speed sensor could be the cause of a slew of issues in your car. It's an essential component of the
audi key's transmission since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is turning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.
The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It sends signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU then processes the signal to control fuel, timig, and boost as well as transmitting it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test the sensor for any failure by checking the continuity between it and the tachometer,
audi car key Cover between the ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. It should show around 1000 ohms of resistance between those points. This is a standard part that is found across the
