Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?

A compact double pushchair is easy to move around, especially for families with children of different age groups. They're generally easy to steer, fold and carry up and down stairs.

They offer recline that can be adjusted for both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point safety harnesses. They are also simple to move around, despite their larger footprint. They are great for parents who fret about fitting through doors.

Tandem

A convertible double buggy is another alternative. It is initially a single however, you can add adapters to make it a double. It can have the option of a second seat or carrycot in front or the kids can be seated side-byside. Some may have the option of including a buggyboard, which helps an older child keep pace with siblings who are younger.

The biggest drawback of this type of buggy is that it tends to be larger overall than doubles that are side-by-side which makes it more difficult to maneuver through doorways, and is difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. However the suspension and wheels on these models generally perform well in dealing with pavements and the fact that they're usually lighter than the side-by-sides means you can still find plenty of storage space. It's important to remember that these strollers aren't as good at getting through narrow aisles in supermarkets, and may struggle to handle a large amount of shopping. Although it's easier to turn the stroller on a small curved path, this can still be a challenge. Some are easier to turn than other models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.

Convertible

The benefit of convertible double pushchairs is the ability to adapt to the changing family needs. They are typically single buggies, but include adapters to add an additional seat, a carrycot or (in certain cases) the car seat to the frame. It is a breeze to maneuver due to its light weight (about the equivalent of some single pushchairs). Many have praised the clever way it connects the second seat or riding board in the back. Parents also appreciated the fact that it can accommodate infant carriers and car seat from a variety of brands. This includes a few that aren't normally compatible with other double buggies.
