French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review
Melding form with functionality, French-door refrigerators have stylish double doors that open to an enormous fridge on top and freezer drawer below. Special features such as through-the-door dispensers, higher-end ice machines, and customizable flex drawers make them stand out from the rest.
We sought out experts like Ladina Schopf, interior designer and architect, as well as the founder of LS Projects, for tips on how to select the best one. They looked at the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency among other factors.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
As the name suggests, GE's Profile series targets the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door to a smart dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I expected more.
Aside from that blip the fridge is a great choice. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth
french door fridge not plumbed door refrigerators. Additionally, it holds a good amount of frozen foods compared to similar models.
Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is on the same as a French door fridge costing this much. It also has a decent-sized icemaker that is tucked away in the left door, though it's not the biggest I've seen.
You can alter the shelves in both compartments for a custom storage solution. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is good-looking, too. The LED lighting is a nice touch, and the in-door storage bins feature a third shelf that can fold down to make it possible to store tall items. The drawers include temperature controls that allow you to set them to Meat, Beverage, or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, although I found their plastic textured coatings a bit rough on the fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator is equipped with a complete set of features you'd expect from a fridge in this price range with Wi-Fi and app support through GE's SmartHQ software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from any place around the world. It also comes with numerous options for customizing. It also gives you notifications when a door is left open, when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.
It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill, an option available in other GE fridges that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to dispense at a time. The fridge displays a countdown timer to reveal how much water is left however it's not as helpful as Precise Fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is a striking piece. It's designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also features a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer and two compressors to preserve food items. The Ice maker is among the most efficient we've ever tested and produces a pyramid-shaped ice that is low in water consumption. This refrigerator is a great option for households with a single member or kitchenettes looking for a built-in look and top of the line food preservation.
This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for a few reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained stable at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit and never fluctuating by more than a fraction a degree--this is key to avoiding freezing burn. The fridge section of the refrigerator also performed well. It reached the temperature it was set within a matter of hours, and maintained the temperature throughout our testing.
Bosch is known for its high-end appliances and appliances, so it's not a surprise that this counter depth refrigerator is also a smart appliance with the option to connect to your home Wi-Fi and Bosch's Home Connect platform. This app allows you to control and monitor your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive, but offers great features and capabilities at a reasonable price.
While the fridge is an amazing piece of equipment however, it is important to understand the limitations. It has a small shelf space, which means you'll have to think creatively when it comes to storing large items. The shelves aren't resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp items. It's easy to remove the trays from the fridge however, you must keep them clean to avoid the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth
french freezer door refrigerator Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage into an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with the standard French door layout, with two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded in order to create more space for taller items. You'll also find a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.
One of the great features of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is in the freezer, making it easy to transfer the ice to the refrigerator to be used when it is required. The freezer also features thoughtful design features, such as sliding drawers that help you organize your belongings. It has a large bin for storing frozen food, and a separate container for ice.
Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a nice method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially when you're away from home.
However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't necessarily add to the overall performance of the refrigerator. The fridge took a bit longer to defrost food and chill it than other models we tested. This could be due to its bigger capacity.
The doors pose a problem with this refrigerator. They have sunken handles on the front that allow shorter people to easily pull them open from the bottom, however they're not easy for taller people to steer shut without slamming them. It would have been better if they came with a front-mounted handles.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the look and feel of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for a counter-depth model, and it cools evenly and has a good layout. It's also less expensive than the top counter depth refrigerator with an icemaker, which makes it a desirable choice.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
This Frigidaire French door refrigerator is a great choice for those looking for a French-door fridge that won't break the budget. It's a basic refrigerator that might not be as eye-catching as some of its competitors however, it does have enough features to make it a good option. Its main feature is the temperature adjustable drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water and ice maker dispenser.
Another nice feature is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you use the majority of the refrigerator's cooling power into this area so that you can keep food items that require extra attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've found that the generic settings work better than the specific ones.
During my tests, I found that the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent in various parts of the fridge. Temperatures at the top and bottom of the fridge did not vary much from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within one degree of 36. This is a pretty good performance, but it doesn't quite be among the top in our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat in order to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is constructed of grey-bodied stainless steel which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It blocks streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
