World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its base stats improve in value. This value is the total of all the upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). Upgrading items can be expensive, depending on the upgrader you choose and what type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
It is also used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear since PvP is not available at lower levels. Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell equipment players can look at the levels of the item. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.
On PC, you can view the item level by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are a few theories on how the item level calculation is made. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It considers the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is typically close to Blizzard's actual item level.
However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, because the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
Item stats are a big component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the
Best item upgrade." The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.
Upgrades to the item add by boosting certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey for instance, can only be upgraded one time however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an
item upgrading. Affixes can provide the item extra damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.
All affixes can be being re-rolled right now by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items that can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same way as the other options for rerolling.
In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within that range, unless it's an exclusive item or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another aspect that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes, or selecting which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be performed on a per-item basis, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the likelihood of locating items as well as the properties spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade Items (
Lovewiki.faith). It gives the player an opportunity to get better equipment earlier in the game. This is more advantageous in the early game, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.
Luck can also boost the chance of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each new level of item. It is also possible to be increased with the use of anti-materials like a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, armor, and shields can spawn or be crafted using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to add another 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available from the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chances of success or even prevent themselves from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an
upgrade item failing can't be greater than 100%..
The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an average success rate of 25 percent, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the
Item Upgrader CORE client config.
