The handles on your doors wear out over time and will need to be replaced. It is crucial to be able to match the dimensions of the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.

The three measurements to check are the top screw position, lever and key hole sizes. Refer to the size guide for assistance in this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle or lever is a modern door handle designed to work with new or replacement doors. This style of handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. This handle is available from several manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The uPVC/composite door handles (My Home Page) are made of robust materials and are suitable for doors with multi-point locks which require a robust design. The uvpc window handles are inline and they use the same screws and spindle to secure them. They are easily fitted on any uPVC/Composite door.

The spring lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This will ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit a wider range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is situated further back in the door. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors with latches which can be operated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. These handles can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are usually used on UPVC double glazed doors and come in many variations & styles.

The handles are available in a variety of finishes including White chrome, and Gold. The finish meets BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.

All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles come with a spindle and screws which allow them to be installed on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixing centres of 211mm permit a bigger size of handle which is often a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, thereby solving the issue of handles that slide out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.

It is crucial to ensure that the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when choosing the replacement double glazing handles UPVC spindle and window handle repairs. This measurement is also known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the correct handles.

After you have identified the correct size of PZ and the correct PZ size, you must make sure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically round or square with an internal lever, and an external door handles and locks push pad.

The majority of the UPVC Lever Pads we sell are sprung. This means that they will return to a horizontal position when not being used instead of hanging and possibly securing to the frame. This stops draughts from entering the building. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed versions, allowing them to be put on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks are found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and allowing them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with internal and external doors usually having different levels of security.

The choice of the correct cylinder is essential; it is dependent on how your doors and handle are utilized. Doors that are external, for instance are required to be fitted with cylinders with greater security, whereas doors inside can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that increase security, such as anti drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder must be properly measured to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the hole for fixing screws in the middle to each end of the cylinder including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable to measure with the lock in position, you can take it out of it. It is essential to ensure that there is no extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.

Most newer cylinders have been designed with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in a different direction. This helps deflect the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

There are also cylinders that have been made to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the break line of the lock, and then the front of cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and less difficult than opening multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can hinder an insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette sits in the base of your door handle's backplate providing a sprung solution and returning the multipoint lock handles back to their original position after using. These handles used to have no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple feature is among the best ways to correct this issue and is an effective way to keep your doors made of upvc from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as these aren't always easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They are not compatible with handles that are not sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit. (Please see the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplate of the door handle for various brands of uPVC doors. They have a square cut out which can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and they are supplied individually.

These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution for the problem of door handles that have become sagging. They are simple to put in and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
