There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology, so it's prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

However, it's a good choice to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you are at work or school. The only thing it's missing that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it clean the mopping pad, it can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum and mop robot vacuum for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient mop and automatic vacuum cleaner and mop combo uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change its cleaning schedule and customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mop. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Professional+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types, including some area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line, and it nimbly avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the bulky models of the competition. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only real drawback is that it's loud that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to fall asleep.

It's also quite expensive, but not as much as the Ecovacs S8 MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally impressive and attractive. If you're willing to live with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should please almost everyone.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features to help you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum, refills the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they are.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean a particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be useful if you own a large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other best robot vacuum that mops vacuums, which means it can get to corners and underneath furniture more easily. It also has an app that's less intuitive, and a smaller base station that does not double as a bin for emptying.
