The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare They are also adept at cleaning hair from dogs. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our first option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature that we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combination.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and
automatic vacuum cleaner and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that appears more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy units of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a concern in the mornings before work, or during the night when you are trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a dual-purpose
vacuum mop cleaner robot that's extremely powerful however it's more expensive and make more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a variety of sophisticated features that will let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take the care of vacuuming and mopping, with a multifunction dock that automatically empty the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
The vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they are.
If you own a larger home, you should consider selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned with the help of an app or voice control. A stair mode can be useful if you own a number of furniture. Also a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It's a pro at vacuuming, picking up 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app, and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, plan a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to ensure better performance. The app also provides access to a variety of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
