WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades provide a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an
item upgrading by +3. Each upgrade also increases an unspecified substat.
The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item level upgrade (
my response) upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of weapon or armor. The
item upgrade used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.
You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.
The cost of upgrading will be based on the current
item upgrade level of the equipment being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new equipment from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item, it will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used for tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from item upgraders NPCs for various currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an
upgrade items is purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor using the help of button, which will show an item's preview at the next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.
The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current level of the item as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.
Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and a chance to obtain the latest recipe. The upgrade discount increases with the number of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by having players complete some specific achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a positive and a drawback.
In Season 3, several new features were added to the upgrade system. Once the player has upgraded to a certain item level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less. This applies even if the items come from a different set of equipment.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also reduced and is not available until players achieve certain achievement milestones.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a couple of choices. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specific, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an integral component of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to gear of a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing content at the appropriate level. This could mean doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in any difficulty to earn equipment of lower tier or Mythicbosses for raids, or dungeons that have a high difficulty for gear in the endgame. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.
The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying only on seasonal loot.
Another significant change is that crests have one use, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's
Best item upgrader to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best gear you have available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan on making. This is particularly true for items such as trinkets and rings that take up multiple slots. The discount on the account is only applicable when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality equipment.
