WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades can give you an increase in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. Each upgrade also boosts an unspecified substat.
Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter due to the need to roll a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The
item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.
You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the
item upgrades, however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For example upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while buying a similar
item upgrader mod from a different player will cost 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They are purchased by players from NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an The button will show a preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and the current level of the item, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for example. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.
Item upgraders can be found in a variety of locations, including the main island as well as some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and the chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit and a drawback.
In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level for an item in an armor slot, upgrading additional items to that level will cost less even if they belong to another set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones have been reached.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW, players have a variety of choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone who wants to upgrade. Crests are more special, and are used during specific

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and that each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade can require up to 20 crests, based on the type of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through completing content of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ dungeons or heroic raid bosses for endgame gear. These crests are then exchanged with an
item level upgrade upgrader such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and paths.
The use of these currencies isn't too difficult however, the system does introduce some modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters, instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another important modification is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with top-quality equipment.
