World of Warcraft - Item Upgrade
Item upgrades allow players to raise the item level of weapons and armor that are equippable. This increases the stats and sometimes adds buffs or rerolls on an affix.

Cost
When a player upgrades an item, they must spend Gold to upgrade the item. The cost of upgrading an item is contingent on its current level and the type of upgrade selected. For instance, upgrading a weapon will generally be less expensive than upgrading armor, since weapons have lower requirements for level. The amount of Gold needed increases as an item is upgraded.
A new item will also have improved stats, which can improve its performance in many ways. This may include boosting its attack strength or critical strike chance.
