Convenience
A
Built-in Microwaves microwave oven combo can save counter space and give your kitchen a sleeker look. It can be used to heat leftovers, frozen food, and even pre-packaged food items. It also eliminates the requirement for a separate countertop appliance or large wall ovens that are stand-alone. If you are looking to upgrade your home without having to undertake major renovations, a combination microwave oven is a great choice.
Microwave ovens are available in a variety of different styles to suit the decor of your kitchen. Some microwave oven combos feature doors that swing open from right to left or drop-down designs that open the same way as traditional ovens. There is also microwave ovens that open in a drawer, similar to cabinets. Microwave drawers are easily reached and are ideal for
small built in microwave spaces.
Combination microwaves also have a variety of features that make meal preparation easier and more efficient. For example, some models have a sensor steam cycle that automatically adjusts the time and temperature of your food to ensure that you receive perfectly steamed veggies and fish. Other features include a broil feature that lets you quickly melt cheese or cook your favorite food, as well as Crispwave(tm) technology that lets you grill, bake and crisp foods.
Consider how often you'll utilize each feature before deciding on a microwave-oven combination. If you'll use the oven portion of your combo more than the microwave, you might prefer a double wall oven instead. It's also important to remember that a combo appliance typically has less capacity than a traditional standalone oven.
Once you've decided on a microwave and oven combo to meet your needs, you should think about the installation process. Over-the range models are mounted over your stovetop or cooktop, and plug into the power outlet.

Energy Efficiency
A built in microwave oven combination can be a great space saving option for those who have smaller kitchens, whether they live in a home or an apartment. They can help save cabinet space that would otherwise be occupied by two separate appliances, and they can also help reduce energy consumption. They are more energy efficient than traditional wall ovens and offer the most efficient method to cook. Additionally, they can usually be used to cook hot and cold dishes, eliminating the requirement for additional appliances like toasters or warming plates.
DOE conducts a variety of analyses when evaluating possible amended energy conservation standards. These include assessments of technology and market screening analyses, engineering analyses and a national impact analysis (NIA). In this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its existing engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the maximum level of efficiency improvements that are technically feasible for this product category.
In the engineering analysis, DOE will compare the design parameters of a microwave to a set of energy performance objectives. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.
As part of the NIA, DOE will evaluate the effects on consumers for each product category, including lifecycle cost savings, and simple payback period ("PBP"). DOE will use the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for ovens that can be microwaved to determine the industry's net present value (NPV).
DOE will also examine the impacts on manufacturers, and will use an industry-specific cash flow model modified to fit this particular product in order to estimate manufacturing NPV. Additionally, DOE will consider the potential impact on small business manufacturers and other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be disproportionately affected by these proposals.
DOE will also consider whether the test procedure for microwave ovens needs to be revised to include active mode power consumption and a possible integrated energy use measurement. Currently, the test protocols only cover standby mode power use.
Design
Microwaves create heat by causing water molecules vibrate in food. Wall ovens are based on the circulation of hot air while microwaves depend on waves to cause food molecules to vibrate. Combination wall ovens combine two distinct appliances into a single unit that helps save kitchen space and provides sleek, modern design. However, you must carefully take into consideration your budget and goals before investing in a combo wall oven. A few of the combo wall ovens in our ratings have issues with performance or design.
