This article reviews all locally published pragmatic research on Korean up to 2020. It focuses on the most important practical issues, including:
Discourse Construction Tests (DCTs)
The test for discourse completion (DCT) is an instrument that is widely used in research that is based on pragmatic principles. It has many advantages,

The DCT can also be biased and lead to overgeneralizations. This is why it should be analyzed carefully before using it for research or for assessment purposes.
Despite its limitations, the DCT can be a valuable tool to study the relationship between prosody and information structure in non-native speakers. The ability of the DCT in two or more stages to alter social variables related to politeness is a plus. This feature can help researchers to study the role played by prosody in communication across different cultural contexts, a key issue in cross-cultural pragmatics.
In the field linguistics, DCT is one of the most effective tools used to study the behavior of communication learners. It can be used to investigate various issues, including manner of speaking, turn-taking, and lexical choices. It can be used to evaluate the phonological complexity of the learners' speech.
Recent research has used the DCT as a tool to assess the refusal skills of EFL students. The participants were given a list of scenarios and were asked to choose the appropriate response from the options offered. DCTs are often created with specific linguistic requirements in mind, such as content and form. These criterion are intuitive and based on the assumptions of the test developers. They are not necessarily accurate, and they may misrepresent the way that ELF learners actually refuse requests in real-world interactions. This issue requires more research into different methods to assess the ability to refuse.
In a recent study, DCT responses to student requests via email were compared to those from an oral DCT. The results showed that DCTs favored more direct and conventionally-indirect requests and utilized more hints than email data.
Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)
This study explored Chinese learners' pragmatic choices when it comes to using Korean by using a range of tools that were tested, including Discourse Completion Tasks (DCTs), metapragmatic questionnaires, and Refusal Interviews (RIs). Participants were 46 CLKs with intermediate or higher ability who responded to MQs and DCTs. They were also required to provide reflections on their opinions and refusals in RIs. The results revealed that CLKs are more likely to defy native Korean pragmatic norms. Their choices were influenced primarily by four factors such as their personality and multilingual identities, their current lives, as well as their relational affordances. These findings have pedagogical consequences for L2 Korean assessment.

프라그마틱 정품 사이트 the MQ data were analyzed to determine the participants' rational choices. The data were categorized according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Then, the responses were matched with their linguistic performance on the DCTs to determine whether they showed a pattern of resistance to pragmatics or not. The RIs showed that CLKs were aware of their logical resistance to every DCT situation. RIs were conducted on a one-to-one basis in the space of two days of the participants completing the MQs. The RIs were transcribed and recorded by two coders who were independent and then coded. The coding process was an iterative process, where the coders listened and discussed each transcript. The results of the coding process are evaluated against the original RI transcripts to determine whether they captured the underlying pragmatic behavior.
Refusal Interviews (RIs)
One of the major questions in pragmatic research is the reason why learners choose to resist native-speaker pragmatic norms. A recent study sought to answer this question by employing a variety of research instruments, including DCTs MQs, DCTs, and RIs. The participants comprised 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs, and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. They were asked to complete the DCTs in their native language and to complete the MQs in either their L1 or L2. The results showed that CLKs on average, did not adhere to the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40 percent of their responses. They did this even though they could produce native-like patterns. In addition, they were aware of their pragmatic resistance. They attributed their decision to learner-internal factors like their personality and multilingual identities. They also referred to external factors, such as relational benefits. They described, for example, how their relationships with their professors allowed them to perform better in terms of the cultural and linguistic standards of their university.
However, the interviewees expressed concerns about the social pressures and penalties that they might be subject to if they violated their social norms. They were worried that their native friends might view them as "foreignersand believe that they are incompetent. This concern was similar to the concerns voiced by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).
These findings suggest that native-speakers' pragmatic norms are not the norm for Korean learners. They may still be useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. But it would be prudent for future researchers to reconsider their applicability in specific situations and in various contexts. This will help them better understand the impact of different cultural environments on the behavior of students and classroom interactions of students in L2. Additionally, this will help educators develop more effective methodologies for teaching and testing korea pragmatics. Case Studies
The case study method is a method that employs in-depth, participant-centered investigations to investigate a specific topic. This method utilizes numerous sources of information including interviews, observations, and documents to prove its findings. This type of investigation can be used to analyze unique or complex subjects that are difficult for other methods to assess.
In a case study, the first step is to clearly define both the subject and the purpose of the study. This will help determine what aspects of the subject matter are essential for research and which can be omitted. It is also helpful to read the research to gain a broad knowledge of the subject and put the issue in a larger theoretical context.
This study was based on an open-source platform, the KMMLU Leaderboard [50] along with its Korean-specific benchmarks HyperCLOVA X, and LDCC Solar (figure 1 below). The results of the study showed that L2 Korean learners were particularly dependent on the influence of native models. They tended to select wrong answer choices that were literal interpretations of prompts, deviating from accurate pragmatic inference. They also showed an inclination to add their own text, or "garbage," to their responses, which further hampered their quality of response.
Moreover, the participants of this study were L2 Korean learners who had attained level 4 on the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) at the end of their third or second year of university and were hoping to achieve level 6 for their next test. They were asked questions regarding their WTC/SPCC, their pragmatic awareness and understanding and their understanding of the world.
The interviewees were given two scenarios, each involving an imaginary interaction with their interactants and asked to choose one of the following strategies to use when making an inquiry. The interviewees were then asked to justify their choice. Most participants attributed their pragmatic opposition to their personalities. TS for instance said she was difficult to approach and was hesitant to ask about the wellbeing of her colleague when they had a lot of work despite the fact that she thought native Koreans would.
