The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot hoover can vacuum and mop without needing your attention. It will leave your floors clean. Its low cost and top-of-the-line features (such as dirt detection) are pluses.

robot-vacuum-mops-logo-text-black-png-original.jpgBe sure to regularly check your robot's brushes for tangled hair and large debris and clean them as required. Certain models also automatically empty the onboard dust bin and place it in a larger bin at the base. This reduces the amount fine dust that gets released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro and its sibling the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've test. They have motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top choice) they employ intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored extremely well in our tests on bare floors, and they are particularly adept at cleaning hair from dogs. They do have some flaws however, which prevent them from being our first option. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very well during our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of the room.

It's still a good deal for those whose home or office has a lot of bare floors and you're looking to save money. It's also very quiet and can be used while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle, however. If you're in need of it, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps as well as nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This highly efficient combination vacuum and mop uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can alter its cleaning schedule and set up zones through the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is similar to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and extend them when in a carpeted room which prevents cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot cleaner auto vacuum and mop/mop that could complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, and bundles of cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxes This mop and robot vacuum is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also its smartest. It comes with advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit that could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you attempt to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty these areas tend to be.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a model with a spot or zone cleaning mode. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Also the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a smarter robotic cleaner and mop than you would imagine from its price. It vacuums well and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is robotic cleaner and mop than the majority mop cleaners for robots that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up an area for cleaning or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has a strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. And you can set up a spot clean that scours a specific area.

It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it is more likely to be stuck on low thresholds. It also has a higher noise than other top robot vacuums we've test. It also has a less intuitive app and a small base station that isn't able to double as an emptying bin.
