Guild Wars 2
Item UpgradeThe stats of an item are improved by upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases the stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to get a gauge of each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items increases with their rarity and item level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats of your weapon and armor. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways such as using upgrade components or by increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. Many items can also be reforged in order to increase their value.
Upgradeable items can be found throughout the game, both in the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be created by players. The main way to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are components that can be slotted into equipment. Most equipment has slots that can be upgraded, and many require a specific level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components provide specific bonuses while others provide an overall bonus.
There are many types of upgrade elements in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments, can be put in any type of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than those that are type specific to the type of equipment. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools and provide a variety of bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting materials.
To upgrade an
Best item upgrader, select it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. It will show the expected statistics after the upgrade. The Upgrade button at the bottom will read blocked if you don't have enough of either.
The upper-right corner shows the number of upgrade components required for the specific item. The cost of an upgrade increases as the level and rarity of the item increases. However you can cut down on the cost by purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.
Many weapons can be improved with a prefix, like a rune or an insignia. Other weapons can be upgraded by adding an suffix. These upgrades can be used to add an adjective to the item's name like "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs can be a powerful tool to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, making them even more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs can also enhance the recall of a message by evoking an experience of familiarity in the brain.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a specific amount. This is clearly displayed on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This isn't the actual amount at which glyphs can improve the stat, but rather the maximum value by which it can do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and the quality of the product you are in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components that are slotted into items are not able to be replaced or salvaged without dismantling the equipment in question, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
If you want to remove a glyph from an item you must save it using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. This will cause the
item upgrades to be destroyed that it was installed in, but you can recover the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards, therefore it should not be considered as a loss.
If you take an item off after adding a glyph the shards that are part of that glyph will disappear. You can also place an inscription to your equipment to give it a bonus. Deferred Damage, for example, can store damage and then be dealt slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This can be helpful for those who take many hits from enemies, but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to change the affixes that are placed on equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from various sources, such as mystery boxes, rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with a random affix that is typically better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats to cause more damage or bonuses.
Rerolled items do not appear on the menu for upgrade options, but they are still able to be upgraded. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the appearance of the window and allows up to six items to recycle. Recycling an item adds small amount of points to its level gauge. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its own level, so higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
In addition to tokens for rerolls, players can make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls will roll a % chance for a weapon's trait. If it is higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it is lower the weapon remains as is. Weapons can be repeated up to three times.
Rerolls are a great option to upgrade an item, but users must be aware that it will reduce the total ilvl of the weapon based on the number of rerolls required to increase it to its final ilvl. This effect is most noticeable on Rings and Diadems since they have no other options for raising ilvl.
Some players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It's more fair to allow players to pay for it using money or food items which would allow players to make changes to their builds without spending excessive amounts of time. The developers have no plans to introduce paid rerolls at this stage in the game's development. Instead, they're planning include an option to change the race in the future.
Leveling
There are a variety of ways to level up an upgrade to an item. The first is to increase the upgrade amount, which increases the upgrade value of any stat. The alternative is to increase the effect of an upgrade, which can increase the healing or damage for an individual stat. Finally there is the possibility to upgrade the base item to a more powerful upgrade type. The new item will retain its iLevel but have the upgraded effects of the upgraded

When you
upgrade items it is essential to keep in mind that upgrades aren't always planned. In the majority of cases, a better roll will result from glyphs, however there are also chances for greater or special rolls. In addition the iLevel of an upgrade will be determined by the type of item and should you upgrade a rare or unique item to a unique type, it has a chance to gain an increased iLevel.
Upgrades to items can be costly especially when you're upgrading a piece of equipment from the standard to the legendary track. The price will be based on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it offers. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to achieve the next upgrade level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will get to the top of its upgrade track and unlock an additional effect. This will provide a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level, however. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased a value of +3.
The iLevel also changes depending on the item's upgrade path and base level. For instance the weapon that has been upgraded from a rare or unique item to an extraordinary item will have a chance to get the Enhanced Defense of the new base type of item.
