Upgrades give you boost in specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like Eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used to upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader is located in all major cities and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader at least once every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

The cost of upgrading will be based on the current level of the item being upgraded however, they will always be less expensive than buying new gear from other sources. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that are used to level up weapons tools, armor, and other items. They are purchased by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for various currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased, it can be used on any weapon or tool with a button, which displays an image of the item level upgrade at its next upgrade level in the event that the player has enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item upgrades and current item upgrading level, with weapons costing more than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. Once an item level Upgrade has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and the possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the start, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are only available through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. Once a player has upgraded to a specific level for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This applies even if the items are from another set of equipment.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available when certain milestones are achieved.

Crests

Players have a variety of options for upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item upgrading level upgrades. Crests are an integral element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to note is that crests are only able to be spent on gear of a specific rank, and that every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade is 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type or equipment being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. The crests can then be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and pathways.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it brings some modifications to the upgrade process. Once a piece of gear attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest level possible on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable change is that crests have one use and it's crucial to use them properly. It is best to put your Whelpling-rank Crests on the best gear you can find, and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next set of upgrades. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The account-wide discount will only apply when all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
