WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases item upgrading level by 3. A random substat is also added to every upgrade.

The more modernized gear generally has a greater value for trade regardless of whether it has low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as valuable for those with higher variance due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of armor or weapons. The item used to upgrade the item level upgrade (click through the next document) will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items which can be used to level up weapons and tools, armor and other accessories. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will show a preview of an item upgrades's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the slot of the item and the current level of the item upgrades, with weapons costing more than bracers or gloves, for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a specific number of crests. Some upgrades offer a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount, it can be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower cost.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and a few outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an item upgrader at the start unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. Instead the NPCs that are available to facilitate upgrades require a variety of means, which is both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been altered a bit, with several new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific item upgrades level for a particular armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less even if they are part of a different gear set.

The discount is available to all accounts. In the same way, the amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that crests are only able to be used on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has its own requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be by engaging in outdoor activities or doing dungeons or raids in all difficulties to get equipment of lower tier or Mythic+ raid bosses or dungeons with a heroic difficulty to obtain endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade pathways and steps.

The new currency system isn't difficult to use, however it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it will no longer require Flightstones to be upgraded. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another notable modification is that crests have one purpose therefore it's essential to make use of them in a responsible manner. For instance it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the top equipment you have, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making.
