Lolita's Personality

In 2022, a new owner of Miami Seaquarium, who calls Lolita a relative of theirs, pledged to come up with plans with a group of Lolita supporters called Friends of Toki, and the Lummi Tribe, to transport her to open water eventually. The plan included a sanctuary pen on the west coast of Washington where she could live for the remainder of her life receiving human care and be monitored by scientists. The sanctuary pen would be hundreds of times bigger than her Miami home and surrounded by the ocean, not a concrete tank.

If the plan was successful, Lolita (also called Tokitae or Toki), might still be alive. In the wild killer whales are highly social animals that bond with family members until they die.
