Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love the remote control features of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle, start the motor, and even locate it via the smartphone app.

Place the fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button to let it go. Put a coin between the fob cover and the fob, and carefully pull it up.

Locking the Door

Volvo's remote key fobs will unlock the doors, tailgate, and the flap that holds the fuel filler of your car with the touch of a button. They also can turn on the ignition, set the alarm, and even operate your sunroof, if it's equipped. With these features you'll never need to search for your keys or have to lock yourself out of your car again.

If you have a new Volvo model from our dealership, you might be unfamiliar with some of its key fob's hidden features. One of these features is an unlocked and lock button that you can use in the event that the battery on your key fob goes out.

Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo facing upwards, and press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button close to the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open a protective cover that protects the key blade that is manual. You will need a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip this cover counterclockwise, so the arrow is aligned with "open."

Starting the Engine

Modern volvo spare key key fobs offer the convenience and functionality that is not available with traditional manual keys. However, just like any battery-powered electronic device the key fob may lose its charge or cease working over time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's in need of a replacement battery.

Remove the back cover of the key fob with your fingernail. Under the cover, on a diagonal near the edge of the body, there is an unidentified button. Slide it to the right. The cover will come loose and slide away to reveal the manual blade! If you still can't locate the button, search around the newly exposed manual key access to determine whether there's a hidden slot or lever.

Close the Windows

One of the hidden features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is that you are able to lower all windows instantly with the fobs. This is useful when trying to squeeze into a cramped parking space, or simply when you want to get some fresh air inside the cabin while driving.

Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, if you have one. When you're finished with the vehicle, you can close all the windows by pressing the lock key for four seconds.

You can also use the key fob to turn on your car's panic alarm. It will emit an intense, attention-grabbing roar which can deter thieves and help you get home in peace after a night out. This feature is great for those who reside in an area that is dangerous or you want to ensure your family's safety when you are away from home.

The opening of the Tailgate

Volvo has loaded its key fob with lot of handy features. These are ideal when you're juggling groceries or helping your kids pack their sports gear after practice.

For example, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and programmable height (if equipped) You can open it by using the key fob. It is possible to open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it by pressing the same button.

Turning off the Alarm

Place your key fobs along with batteries and any other keys on a clean surface. Locate the small black button at the lower left corner of the key fob, then slide it to the right. The cover should loosen and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade underneath it.

You can open all the doors and the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the fob's key twice. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you can also close the windows and sunroof in the event that they're equipped. Connect the battery and the alarm will stop. If it does not then the owner's manual should include a reset procedure.
