Buying a
double stroller sale Buggy From Birth
There are many things to take into consideration when choosing the perfect double buggy from the moment of birth. We spoke with Fourth Trimester postnatal retreat expert Katie Billingsley for her advice on everything from seating options and age ranges to folding mechanisms and storage space.
This buggy is an essential item for active families. It grows with you and your family, from twins to toddlers. It's lightweight with great manoeuvrability and can handle uneven terrain easily.
What type of buggy would you prefer?
A
double single pushchair buggy is perfect for transporting two children, not necessarily of the same age, side by side. They can also be used as prams. Each seat has an adjustable mechanism that allows your children can lie down or sit in different positions. They're often spacious enough to store everything from snacks and drinks to wipes and nappies. They're usually lightweight, fold easily, and small enough to fit in the car boot. If you're someone who drives a lot, it's worth checking that the buggy is easy to manoeuvre with the wheels folded and also to get out and back into your car boot.
You may have seen this type of double buggy on other mothers strollers or even in one as a kid. They are ideal for older siblings that want to keep up with you or for twins and typically have many seating configurations (including "cinema" seats) for your little ones to choose from. They're usually pretty easy to drive and, if you opt for a model with soft suspension, they can be a breeze to get rid of kerbs.
Tandem buggies are a popular option since they're easier to turn than a side-by-side. This is because the second seat sits behind the first one, instead of sitting on top of it. The seats are typically wider and bulkier than a side-by-side, so you should check whether they are able to pass through doors or on public transport. They can be used to transport twins or a toddler and a baby or three kids with the addition of a buggy board.
Lastly there are the'single-to-double' convertibles which can be used as a single pushchair from birth then convert to a double by attaching a second seat, carrycot or car seat to their clever frame. They are generally more expensive than side by sides or tandem buggies but offer lots of flexibility and have a great return on investment. They're generally easy to steer, come with large storage bins and can cope well on uneven surfaces. Some models come with a built-in ride-on boards for older children and 'cinema seats'.
Do you have twins?
Double buggys are the most efficient way to transport your children, whether they are twins or older siblings. There are two main kinds of double buggy - side-by-side buggies in which your children are seated side by side, and tandem buggies where one child is placed above the other. Both can be fitted with two fixed seats, however side-by-side buggies tend to be smaller in width for getting through doors. Tandems tend to be larger in general. They can also accommodate a carrycot or toddler seats.
Do you have a baby?
At beginning having a younger sibling may seem like a lot of responsibility, especially if you're caring for the baby. They might also feel left out when they are in an infant carrier while you push the older one ahead, so having a double buggy right from the beginning can make things easier. It can also give your child a sense of pride as they get to be 'big brother or sister' and help them settle into their new role.
Side-by-side buggies can be a great option for twins, as both children will have the same view. However they are heavy and heavy. We love the sleek B-AGILE
double buggy converts to single by Leclerc that features an innovative frame that expands in width to accommodate two seats fixed. It also offers various configuration options, such as using the second seat as a bassinet or infant carrier.
Alternatively, we recommend an alternative, the Mountain Buggy Double Trailblazer for families that love to explore. This clever buggy is a single pushchair that can be transformed into double by adding an additional seat or carrycot (depending on model). Its smooth ride is perfect for rough terrain and it includes a number of clever features that will keep everyone comfortable.
Do you require a traveling system?
Double buggies are an excellent way to transport your children in a comfortable way. However they aren't necessary for every family. Depending on your lifestyle, and the age gap between your kids you may be able to get by using a single stroller with some attachments, such as baby carriers and toddler harnesses which allow you to transport your child on their back or in front of you.
If you do opt for a
double pushchairs for toddlers buggy there are three types to choose from: side by side or tandem, and convertible. Side-by-side buggies have two seats close to each other, which means your children will be able to see each one another. They are larger than a single stroller and can be difficult to navigate over the kerbs. Tandem buggies are an easier way to travel with a seat in the front and one in the rear, however they are still large and heavy to push.
Convertible double buggies are great because they let you convert your single stroller into an additional buggy by attaching an infant bassinet or car seat to the frame. You can leave your child in the car seat until she is ready to move to the buggy seat. The UPPAbaby Vista V2 is an excellent example of this - it's suitable for twins or a toddler or even three children with the addition of the optional PiggyBack board.
As your children grow older and more mobile to walk, you can opt for a double buggy to take them on cycling trips or other day trips where they may prefer to walk. It's important to remember that your children may not always enjoy being in a stroller and might become tired and disgruntled when they are on longer excursions.
Before you invest in a double stroller, think about the above factors and your family's unique circumstances. A sturdy and reliable double stroller can make life much easier especially if you need to travel through busy streets or overcrowded shopping centers.
