1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've test. They feature motors that are top-of-the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the most powerful model), they use smart mapping to create detailed floorplans that avoid obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also come with a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare They're also particularly adept at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is that its navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to get stuck on shoes and socks, and it couldn't navigate densely packed rooms very efficiently during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save money. It's also very quiet and can work when you're at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad to a dry one in minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide cleaner and more efficient cleaning. The app lets you modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to take off and extend its mops. This can help avoid cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also perfect to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It's not as effective on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after it vacuums this feature, which we've not seen on other robot auto vacuum and mop/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba unit than the boxy models from the rivals. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop to score 100% in our tests due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. If you're willing to put up some more volume and a little more cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum mop cleaner robot and mop with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, and navigates more effectively than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on how dirty they are.

If you have a bigger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your home must be cleaned by using the app or voice control. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. For families that are busy recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off could be very beneficial.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you would think from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop - Going Listed here, cleaners we've tried. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying base that is washable.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt to improve performance. The app also gives access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction, as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but it is more susceptible to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that isn't able to double as a bin for emptying.
