Its affordable price and high-end features (such as dirt detector) are both positives.

Make sure to check your robot's brushes regularly for tangled debris and hair. Wash them if needed. Some models will automatically empty their dust bin on board into a larger bin at the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust that is released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have tested. They feature motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. Like other premium iRobots (including the top model), they use intelligent mapping to design precise floorplans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture leg. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored excellently in our tests of floors with no carpet and are especially adept in cleaning dog hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

Still, it's very good to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a bare-floored home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and you can use it while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean, and effective in dealing with larger particles like pet hair. It also features a self-emptying bin with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best rated robot vacuum robot hoover for carpets, though it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mops utilizes sensors to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. The app lets you set up zones and modify the cleaning schedule. It comes with a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be utilized to reach under low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house and had 66 percent of its battery remaining. It did a good cleaning job on different rooms and floors with various flooring types including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent and it stayed clear of fake dog turds and socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's a bit more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a built-in dust bin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units This mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our evaluations. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features, like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored a perfect 10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's still quite loud which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however, it will cost you more and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and spot obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its premium competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner comes with a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house according to the amount of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes it's recommended to choose one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. If you have furniture, a stair-mode is also useful. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It has a great vacuuming performance, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating motion that is more efficient than most of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to sort out your rooms with the most dirt for better performance. The app also grants access to many features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuum cleaners reviews vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for hair of pets. You can also create a spot-cleaner that will thoroughly clean an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've tested. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and a small base station that does not double as a bin to empty.
