However, unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we evaluated the i3+ does not have obstacle-avoidance capabilities which means it can be stuck on things like power cords or socks, and it may have trouble in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot recommends that you tidy up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums before using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it may encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or its battery is empty, it returns to its docking station, automatically empties its debris into the station's dust bin and continues cleaning where it left off. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes about three hours to charge.

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model of the flagship line from iRobot and comes with all the latest features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is its self-emptying bin. This will eliminate the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names using Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can control your robot via the app or by voice.

In our testing the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our runner-up and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds, including carpeting. Its main advantage over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin that removes a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services, which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room, and even vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected, to voice commands to the i7+, like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model is a sports car. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but it is also compact enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces fade-free power for 60 minutes. Its sophisticated whole-machine filtration system traps allergens and releases clean air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpet to collect large crumbs and fine dust. Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and navigate your home. It's not equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. As a result, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before making it back to its base.
