1. Engine Speed Sensor
The grey wire is located at the edges of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends a signal via the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this information to control fuel and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to correlate the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can activate spark and injectors accordingly.
If this sensor fails the ECU will throw a P00160 code which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are out of sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own, without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
Testing can be a bit difficult since there are two pins for the connector and they have different functions but the most effective method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is at full operation. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this component.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, when accelerating from highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge decrease in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or, my injectors weren't firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the fourth one was dry. When I crank the engine without sparks i put tissue on the top of each of the injector holes and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stays closed. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I found 0ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is somewhere else.
I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even if it is not plugged in, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit is showing 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.
I'm not sure what to do. I feel like i've pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is similar to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate a spare in a wrecking shop or a parts store. Testing them is easy by putting your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from the left on the black end of the connector). They should be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines must know the position and speed of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding timing of fuel injectors, etc. To do this, it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner that can lead to engine shutdown.
A malfunctioning G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. If you have any of these problems, it is likely that your sensor is deteriorating and should be replaced. The good thing is that they are very affordable and easily accessible, especially in the case of the Bosch unit which is what we have. Alternately, the GM version of this part is also a great option.
5. Tachometer
A damaged engine sensor could cause a number of problems in your vehicle. It's an essential component of your
new audi key's transmission, since it relays information to the ECU about how fast or slow the car's crankshaft is spinning. This sensor can cause the transmission to fail and other components of the
