World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and PvE Damage.

Components

A prefix or suffix can be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Rarity or Level of an item, allowing players to create stronger versions using less upgrade crystals than they require to achieve the same level using normal methods.

When a player upgrades an item, the base item is replaced with a different item of the same kind. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item also has its own set bonus. This can be a downside, as the item can become more expensive even if you don't require it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, if the player has enough tokens to be able to do this. The item will be replaced by an entirely new item that is based on a level 1 base and totally different bonuses.
