World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the
upgrade items type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Each item comes with a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. This is the sum of all the upgraded advantages (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that need to be modified to
upgrade item an item.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.
Utilizing the level of an item can help players evaluate the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it's capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor.
On your PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the full description of the item, as well as its ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are various theories on how the item level calculation is done. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by a formula that calculates how valuable the stats of an item really are. It takes into consideration that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl, which is typically close to Blizzard's real item level.
It's not the only factor that affects the level of an item. The degree of the area in which the item was dropped can change its stats. For instance, it could increase the item's haste or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item can make or break an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modification which are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items extra damage or special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name.
Presently, all affixes are able to be rerolled by selecting them from the
upgrade item window and pressing the green button, which is accompanied by the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.
Players can upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat within the range, unless they are an exclusive item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
This is another aspect that can be modified by introducing an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to boost. But, like base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to
upgrade items. It simply gives the player a possibility to obtain better equipment in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in early game runs than later ones as most players prioritize more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any skill that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to boost their success rate or prevent themselves from losing an item if the upgrade fails.
The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased so much, and the chance that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.
The success of an item upgrade is also affected by the luck of that item. Every item has an overall success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by five percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This could cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
