Affordable Cots For Backpackers
For backpackers who wish to elevate their sleeping experience without sacrificing space in their pack or back muscles, these cots with a more cushy design are a good option.
Our mum tester loved this deluxe cot that looks beautiful enough to suit Scandi style nurseries, but is also extremely practical, with three mattress heights that will make it usable until your child is four years old.
Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot
The Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot is our top budget choice and is a great option for campers seeking a basic sleeping solution. It's easy to set up and impressive packability and is also comfortable to sleep on. This cot's large, wide base can support individuals up to 6 feet tall and 300 lbs. Our test subjects found that it was stable on most terrains. It has a pocket on the side to hold items such as sleeping pads, water bottles, and phones. While it's bulkier than some backpacking
cots to tots but the Mountain Summit Gear Horizon Cot is still a great option for portable storage and fits nicely into most car camping tents.
If you want something a little more luxurious, we suggest the REI Co-op Kingdom Cot 3. This
mini cot beds is built for two people and has an area for sleeping that is incredibly comfortable even without an air mattress. The cot has a quilted surface that is a comfortable surface to lie on. It also has baffles on the sides to prevent the user from falling. This cot is also extremely sturdy, with heavy steel and aluminum bars that connect to large swinging legs, which makes it stable on all terrains. It was easy to set up for our test subjects, but the last knob that connected the main bar required extra strength.
Another excellent choice is the Byer of Maine Easy Cot, which is very similar to our top choice in terms of setup and packing. It folds down in a similar way to a folding camping chair and the middle joints snap together easily and quickly. It's slightly heavier and bigger than the Osage River model, however, it folds down into a smaller carry case that's about the same size as the bag that comes with the camp chair. It also has a larger sleeping area as well as an additional storage compartment on the side, which makes it an excellent option for those who require a comfortable camping cot that doubles as a guest bed at home. You can also find the cot with a headrest that is attached for added comfort.

The Kamprite Double Kwik Cot makes the ideal
cot beds for couples who enjoy camping together. This cot is simple to put together and ready for sleeping within minutes. It also comes with a variety of convenient features, including a washable denier cot base as well as a head section that is padded and a hammock for storage. It can also be used as an ottoman or a lounger, and it has various reclining positions that can be customized to your experience.
If you're not looking for a cot that's as comfortable as a mattress, the Coleman ComfortSmart is an excellent option. The cot can be put together in less than two minutes. It also has a wide foot at the base of each leg that swivels to adjust to uneven ground. Additionally, it's affordable and can be bought with or without a mattress.
While the Coleman ComfortSmart is a great choice for car campers, it's not the best choice for backcountry hikers or backpackers. It's too heavy and cumbersome to carry for long distances, so it's recommended for those traveling to their campsites. Additionally the legs can be tricky to unfold properly and require a bit of strength to return them to the body of the cot in order to store them.
Helinox Lite Cot
Helinox Cot One Convertible combines precision engineered fabric with non-stretch technologies to create a lightweight camp bed that is durable and comfortable. The patented tensioners remove the necessity for bulky cross bars and braces and provide excellent tension to the bed's surface without adding additional weight. The tensioners also stop the bed's surface from flattening when it is placed on uneven terrain. The only drawback to this model is its high cost.
If you're a backpacker on an extremely tight budget there are some other low-cost cot options available. For example the OEX Ultralite Folding Cot costs less than half as the Helinox Lite Cot but is substantially heavier. The major drawback of the OEX is that it's not as simple to put together and it can be difficult for small-framed people to bend its five aluminium leg assemblies to fit.
In contrast to OEX and the OEX, the Helinox Lite Cot comes with an exclusive lever lock tensioning system which makes it easier to erect and disassemble. This lever is located at the bottom of each leg. It has a pivoting arm that is able to engage the top frame bar. The other side of the lever is a compressed tab that you depress to release it. The mechanical leverage of this mechanism provides great tension to the bed surface without adding extra bulk or stress on the legs.
The Lite Cot can also be adjusted to a different height by using the leg extensions provided. This is especially beneficial if you are camping in an alpine area where you might need to be elevated due to snow or uneven terrain. The low profile of the cot is not ideal for people who are active in their sleep or share a space with a partner.
The Lite Cot is the same. It takes some practice to put it together and then disassemble it. After a few hours, it becomes a breeze to set up and then pack. It's also incredibly compact and lightweight for a cot, and can fit into most cars, SUVs and vans even when they're stuffed with gear. This makes it a great choice for bike and car camping.
ALPS Mountaineering ReadyLite Cot
If you're seeking a cot for backpacking that is easy to carry and set up it's the ALPS Mountaineering ReadyLite Cot is an excellent choice. Its aluminum 7000 series frame and 420D honeycomb ripstop polyester makes this cot extremely lightweight and durable. It weighs less than 5 pounds, but it can carry 300 pounds of weight. It folds down into the size of a 7x17 inch carry bag, which makes it easy to carry in your backpack.
Unlike many other
cots offers that require you to extend it from its middle, the ALPS ReadyLite Cot has legs that extend out at the bottom of each side. This means that all you have to do is spread the cot, then tighten the straps. It was easy to install. However, its larger size may not be suitable for some tents.
ALPS Mountaineering ReadyLite, while not as lightweight as other cots on this list, is still the
Best cot for newborn option for backpacking cots. Plus, its wide feet at the base of each leg swivel to adapt to uneven terrain and allow you to sleep in the rain.
