There is currently a nationwide shortage of medications to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due both to manufacturing problems and an increased demand in the world.

A highly experienced psychiatrist consultant will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your ADHD. This includes a complete medical history, and an assessment using the standard ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

Following your assessment you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will happen at your follow-up appointment (which can be done in person via video link or via phone). Your physician will go over the different options for medication available. If you decide to start medication, we will offer you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks. It involves adjusting the dosage of your child's medication slowly until the right balance is achieved. It is not unusual to have to titrate several times before determining the most effective one for your child's ADHD symptoms. Unless you have decided to return to NHS treatment the medication you take will be provided with a private prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll be required to attend every six months to check your medication - this includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed after the assessment is completed, you can make follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done through a zoom video call. However, in some cases, it may be possible for an audio-only consultation to be conducted (again at an additional cost).
