The system was first introduced in Mists of Pandaria, and was further developed in Warlords of Draenor. It's a great way to increase the quality of your gear, allowing you to skip the tedious grind of questing and avoiding numerous wipes in Mythic+ dungeons.
When an item is upgraded its base type changes. When upgrading a normal item, it will create an Exceptional item and upgrading an item that is Exceptional will create an Elite version of the base

It could be a weapon that has a greater damage range, a faster speed of reloading, or an increased max defense roll.
The amount of upgrades you do will determine the amount of extras you will receive. Each upgrade boosts the extras in question by an increment of 1 up to a maximum value of 3. Each upgrade will also boost the stats of the main game by +1.
Certain upgrades also give an additional random boost in addition to stat enhancements. These boosts can be extremely valuable and must be considered when choosing which items to upgrade. Some of these boosts are useful in specific builds (such as Whistan's shield for FB sorcs) while others can provide significant value to certain collectors.
Some items have an inherent boo that is less useful when upgraded, for example the Goldwrap which gives more slots for potion. They are usually upgraded to add value to the perfect or nearly perfect item.
Costs
There are a few costs related to upgrades of items. The first is the cost to perform the upgrade. This price is contingent on the item's new ilvl and the number of perks it will gain and can be costly. It can also be expensive to upgrade an
item upgrades to a better tier (such as Explorer > Champion or Veteran > Heroic).
The second is the cost of materials required to upgrade. The items used are usually either Power Dices (dropped by monsters 21and up) or Minerals and Erons (obtainable by completing specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor quests). The quantity of these items needed can be found in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
It takes time to upgrade an item. Depending on the size of the upgrade, it could take as long as 8 hours. The upgraded item's base stats are calculated by using the new ilvl of the item bonus, perks, as well as other properties. This calculation determines the latest Armor Class bonus, damage dice, and other crucial stats. In some cases an upgrade may grant additional benefits. These perks are offered in a list.
Rarely, the new advantages gained will cost more than one perk slot In these instances, the upgrade will only replace the highest-cost perks. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other changes to an item, like changing its weapon damage type or adding or removing an unwieldy or operational property. The cost of these changes is determined by the item's current ilvl and it may require a special material like the adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
The basis for upgrading items is a chance, and like any random system, there is an opportunity that the upgrade will fail. However, there are some things which can improve the odds of success. This includes the use of an Upgrade Pity or the addition extra materials to your upgrade.
An Upgrade Pity is an item that you can purchase from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the chance of an

There are several items in the Kafra shop that can be used to increase the odds of a successful upgrade. The item upgrader allows players to add an additional card slot into their equipment. These slots can be used to apply an enchantment or upgrade an item. It is important to note that not all items are upgradeable. The rank of an item will determine the rate at which it can be upgraded and enchanted. The higher the rank of the item, the more Zeny and items are required to upgrade it.
This kind of system can be expensive, particularly for top-of-the-line gear. It can cost upwards of 100,000 Z and 100 Carnium to upgrade a weapon or armor. The success rate also decreases as you progress in rank. However, you can use cash shop items to increase the chance of upgrading your item efficiently.
Normal Upgrade is a basic upgrade that is only used on armor, weapons and bikes. It uses different grades of cores based on the kind of item. Most commonly, lower grade items will require low grade cores and higher-end items will require more expensive ones.
You must have the correct number of cores to perform an upgrade. Once you have them then click the button next to the item that you want to upgrade. The upgrade window will show a percentage indicator of your chances of success. This percentage is determined by the upgrade level and kind of product you have selected.
You can also opt for an item that is protected by a safeguard your item in the event of failure. The cost of this protection may vary but will always be less than the cost of buying a new item. The safeguard can be used once each upgrade, and it will not expire until it is used again.
The interface for the item upgrader can be somewhat difficult, but it's not difficult to navigate. The main menu is displayed on the left, and the upgrade window on the right. The arrows to the left of the UI represent the various phases of the upgrade process. If you're not sure what you're doing, you can hit the question mark for help. The upgrade process could take as long as five minutes.
