Some also double up as a moses basket too.
What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib (also known as a co-sleeper or bassinet) is a small infant crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your baby to sleep safely next to you. It's a method of co-sleeping in a safe manner that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing and can help you bond with your new arrival.
They usually have a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your infant at night to feed and comforting. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Many are also foldable or portable, so you can take them on your travels and use them as a temporary sleep solution for infants who aren't yet ready to move into a cot that is full size.
Choose a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to protect your baby from staining. You'll also want to purchase baby-safe accessories such as a blanket, a teether and a cuddly toys.
If you are looking for a more long-term solution cribs are available with conversion kits that let you convert them into a toddler bed or cot at the time that is appropriate. This is great for extending their life span and making the transition more seamless. Some have a removable top section that converts into an infant bed, and some can be used on a regular or a high-rise adult bed. This is a great option for families who intend to travel frequently or switch between bedrooms at night. You should also think about the size of your room to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. A lot of cribs have an riser that can be used to create an inclined position for babies who suffer from reflux.

Anna found that the CoZee was a comfortable and safe sleep space for her
newborn bedside cot. She was delighted that it didn't rock like other models, which meant it didn't wake her at night when she was trying to soothe her baby for feedings. She also loved that the sides of the chair was lowered so that she didn't have to reach over her partner in order to carry the child out to feed them at night.
The CoZee is available in charcoal and oak and is a chic addition to the bedroom. It's more an elegant piece of furniture than some of the other cribs that we've tried, which appear quite utilitarian. It is also relatively lightweight at just 11kg and comes with a carry-on case so you can bring it on holiday or even when you move house. You only need to purchase an extra waterproof sheet and safety strap to sleep with your partner. There are step-by-step directions and pictures to guide you through the process as you open the box which makes it a one-person task should you need to.
The Maxi-Cosi lora
The Iora is a bassinet for infants designed to help parents feel closer to their baby while they sleep. It can be adjusted upwards and downwards and moved to three different slide positions, to fit under the bed of the parent or in the corner, so the baby is always within reach. The breathable mesh siding allows air to flow through and lets you glance at your little one. You can also store more pajamas and other supplies in the large storage basket underneath.
The Iora is a smaller
bedside cot mattress cot that folds flat. It also comes with a travel bag which allows it to be taken anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room and our mum testers felt it was the perfect size for a
cheap bedside cot crib. They also liked the large storage basket, perfect for storing nappies or bedding.
This is a great option for parents who are looking to sleep in a co-sleeping arrangement but do not wish to share their beds or whose partners may have mobility issues, like arthritis or back pain. Our mum testers loved that they could easily access their child while in the Iora and that it had an option to have a reflux incline which helped reduce gas.
Our moms are thrilled that the mattress adheres to NICE guidelines. These are to place the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own, without toys, blankets, pillows etc. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for babies, and sheets are readily available. It's not as light as the other cribs that are smaller on our list, so if prefer something lighter and easier to move, you can choose another option.
