World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

Item upgrading allows players to increase the gear score of an item upgrading up to 700, and then add a final perk. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory, and then taking them to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd for their unique stats (like perfect broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) and others, like weapons, do not vary greatly post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Weapons can be upgraded to improve their numeric stats like damage to attack, crit chance as well as PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also come with a flat bonus that increases their damage per second. A lot of weapons also have a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are used in a group. This bonus may be more than the damage a weapon upgrade can do on its own.

In general, you'll be looking at anywhere between three Red Chuchu Jellies and ten Rupees for the initial upgrade, then anywhere between five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For instance, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, which allows you to keep pace with a decent-sized group of enemies in the majority of cold environments and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded up to +20 defense, providing you enough protection to survive an entire raid with a few friends.

You can't upgrade armor in the same way as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor for physical strength or the power of spells. You should also save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still be wearing at the end of the story, like the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you wear in the final boss fight the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

You can also unlock some perks for your armor by presenting the jeweler at Gerudo Town 10 Twinkling Titanite. You'll generally want to save these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game. Potions
