What is an Item Upgrader in Pokemon Go?

The item upgrader adds a brand new widget at the top of the Angel and Cash Upgrade windows. This Manager costs 33 billion Angel Investors, and has no gameplay benefit other than making it easier to buy upgrades.

Certain items come with inherent boos that are less useful when upgraded, such as the Goldwrap which gives extra potion slots. They are usually upgraded to increase the value of a perfect or near-perfect item.

Costs

Upgrades are accompanied by certain costs associated with them. The first is the upgrade itself. It can be costly and is dependent on the new value of the item and the number perks it gains. Upgrades to a higher level (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be costly.

The second is the cost of the items required to upgrade. These are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons, or specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor Quests. The amount of these items required can be seen in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.

It takes time to upgrade an item. It can take up to 8 hours, depending on the size of an upgrade. The stats that are the base of the upgraded item are calculated based upon its new ilvl as well as other characteristics. This calculation determines new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, as well as other important statistics. In some instances the upgrade will provide additional advantages that can be picked from a list of advantages.

In rare instances, the upgrade will replace only the most expensive bonuses. The upgrader could also make other modifications to the item, for example, changing its weapon damage type, or adding or eliminating an operational or unwieldy function. There are some limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is displayed directly above the + button.

A Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version, can be used to increase the chances of an upgrade being successful. This item is useful in the event that you have a weapon or piece of gear that has reached the highest level for its tier, or is close to it.
