It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we've not seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station, and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. If you're willing some more volume and some additional cost it's a powerful two-in-one that will delight most.

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features to help you get rid of your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, washes and dry the mop pads.

The smart robot vacuum with mop utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty those areas are.

For bigger homes it's worth looking for models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to pick up where it left off can be extremely useful.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you might expect from its price tag. It is a great job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app will guide you through an initial mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, which means it can get to corners and under furniture more easily. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is a bit noisier than the other top robot vacuums that mop vacuums we've tried. It also has an app that's not as intuitive, and a smaller base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
