In Nioh the game uses Sets to give special effects when players are wearing pieces of a set of armor. These bonuses are called Set Bonuses and can be superior to Effects. Although it's not clear why the armor sets have to be worn together to generate these additional effects They are a great way to change things up when playing the game. The armor sets that come with Set Bonuses can be found numerous locations around Hyrule, such as the Dark Moon Temple and Twilight Temple.
Set Bonuses are associated with every piece of equipment in the Set. You can find out which ones these are by hovering over the item and examining the tooltip at the bottom. The Set Bonuses will show in an orange box.
Some of these bonuses are exclusive to specific pieces of equipment. If you have the complete Phantom Armor set, you will get +8 defense (instead of the +3 defense you get with most equipment). Some sets can only be obtained by completing certain tasks, or by purchasing them from the Auction House.

Set bonuses
Set bonuses are special effects which can appear on an item set, and provide a bonus to the player in combat. They grant a specific amount of a certain type of stat, for example weapon damage, or defenses, or resistances. They do not stack however, only one of them can be used at any given moment. The amount of a stat is determined by how many pieces of the set have been used that is, you can have three chests and one armour and four weapons, for instance, but only the one with the highest bonus will be of benefit to you.
They typically enhance the primary stat but some increase secondary stats too. Defence bonuses boost three defence positions and two kinds of defenses. For example, a five-piece Hundings Rage set will give you a total of 400 defense in your gear. This is a significant boost in the gear you use as a melee.
This is an excellent feature, and is among the most popular in the game. Currently, only a few gear sets come with set bonuses, and they are only available in the Test Realm, but expect the number to increase when the update goes live. For instance, the popular 7 school specific Dragoon's gear will get its bonus added to it when the update goes live.
Set bonuses cannot be stacked inside a set but they can stack across sets. This is a great option for players who want to combine sets in the
