Certain upgrades also give an additional random boost in addition to stat boosts. These secondary boosts can be very valuable and should be considered when deciding which items to upgrade. Some boosts are useful in specific builds (such as Whistan's shield for FB sorcs) while others can provide a great deal of value to certain collectors.
Some items have a built-in boos which is less useful when upgraded. For example, the Goldwrap provides extra slots for potion. These are usually upgraded to inject more value into a perfect or near-perfect item.
Costs
Upgrades are accompanied by a few associated costs. The first is the cost of performing the upgrade. This cost can be expensive and is contingent on the new value of the item and the number of perks it gets. Upgrades to a higher level (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be costly.
The second is the cost of the items required for an upgrade. These are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons or a specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords Of Draenor Quests. These items can be found in the inventory of an Upgrade Vendor.
Upgrading an item is a complex process that takes time. Based on the magnitude of the upgrade, it could take as long as 8 hours. The base stats of an upgraded
item upgrader kit are calculated based on the new ilvl and other characteristics. This calculation determines new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, and other important stats. In some instances the upgrade will provide additional advantages that can be picked from a list of available benefits.
Rarely, the new perks acquired will cost more than one perk slot to acquire In these instances the upgrade will replace the highest-cost perks. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other adjustments to an item, for example, changing the damage type of a weapon or or removing an operative or unwieldy property. These modifications are based on an item's ilvl. They may also require special materials, such as the adamantine.
Success Rate
The upgrading of an item is based on the chance. Like any random system there is a chance that it won't work. There are a few methods to increase your odds of success. This includes using an Upgrade Pity or the addition additional materials to your upgrade.
An Upgrade Pity is an item you can buy from the smithing NPC in Lost Ark. It increases the odds of a successful upgrade by some percentage. It is similar to the luck bonus that some items come with however it is more reliable. It can be added to any weapon or armor and is able to be used up to three times.
You can also add other materials to the upgrade to increase its chances of success. The materials are displayed in a window above the + button. There are a few limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is shown directly above the + button.
Another way to increase the chance of a successful upgrade is to use an item called a Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This
