World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
The upgrade of an item can be used to boost the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type it can increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
Upgrades to gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its stats are increased in value. This value is the total of all of its upgraded perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive dependent on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to the number of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.
item upgrade level is a widely used measure of power, and can be found on all tooltips for items. It is also used to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at lower levels. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.
Using the item level can help players compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and quality. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.
On PC, you can see the level of the item by pressing ALT or using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, as well as its value. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat.
There are various theories on how the item level calculation is done. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats actually are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the value of the item. This can result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is often very close to Blizzard's real
item upgrader level.
However, this isn't the only factor that determines the ilvl of an item, since the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
The
item upgrader mod's stats can determine the fate of an item for players. The game utilizes them in a variety of ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon, and to encourage players to experiment with other weapons. The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.
The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. An item that is white or grey, for example, will only be upgraded once and items that has rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times at higher costs.
Another method to alter the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and they come in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or other special capabilities (such as reviving dead or reducing cooling downs), or to differentiate them by naming them.
All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade menu and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.
Players can upgrade an item to a specific stat or reroll attaches. The possible stat ranges of an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at minimum one stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss of a raid.
This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. But, like base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the interface for comparing items wouldn't show all possible stats gained or lost at once.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the chances of item discoveries and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in early game runs because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items with the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances, which increase with each item level. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Moreover, certain items, such as the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to increase their success rate or prevent them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..
The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases that chance by 5%.
The
item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This can obscure enchantment effects and other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the
Item Upgrader CORE client config.
