World of Warcraft
Item UpgradesItem upgrades are a way to boost the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level, and also boost other stats.
Upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of its upgraded perks (attack magic attack, attack defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, dependent on the upgrader and what kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is due to how many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips for items. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players are able to wear since PvP is not available at a lower level. The average item level can be found in the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's an excellent indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it's capable of causing. The level of an item can be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory.
On PC, you are able to see the level of the item by pressing ALT or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The
item upgrading will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. You can also locate it by hovering over an item and typing in /itemlevel chat.
There are a variety of theories on how the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzards actual item level.
However, this is not the only factor which determines the ilvl of an item, as the size of the area the item is dropped into can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods on an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The rarity of an item determines its cost of upgrading. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once however, items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.
Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can do things like give the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or reducing the cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding an exclusive name to the item.
At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, as with other rerolling methods.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can also choose which of the available stats to be kept on an item when it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are based on the level of the item, however all items are guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within the specified range, unless it's an exclusive item or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.
This is another thing that could be changed by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface will not show all the stats that could be gained or lost at once.
item upgrader mod Luck
The Luck stat for a player adds up to increase the chances of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops and the intensity of the properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or ability to upgrade items. It provides players with an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially beneficial in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to confuse with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chances, which increase with each level of the item. These can also be increased with the use of anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned by using the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to boost an item's existing Luck up to 140.
Furthermore there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are costly and not all upgrades will succeed. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item if the upgrade is unsuccessful.
The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. The probability of success can only be increased as high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.
The Luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. Every item has an initial success rate of 25% and every item with Luck increases that chance by an additional five percent.
The
item upgrade overlays are rendered above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
