The upgrade of an item upgrades lets players increase the gear rating of an item level upgrade by up 700 points and also give it a bonus. Items can be upgraded by keeping them in inventory before heading to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd to benefit from their unique stats (like an ideally rolled breakpoint armour used in melee PvP) while others like weapons don't change much post upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

The number of stones needed to upgrade the gun will increase until it requires a higher level of Smithing Stones. At that point, it will reset back to one.

The 3% difference does not mean that the weapon will strike 3 times less, as it is an absolute number.

A weapon can also be rerolled by pressing the green button that has circular arrows within the menu for items. The Best item upgrader will be rerolled and alter its stats, however, it will not reset the weapon's level or connect to the status of your account.

Armor

A few upgrades to your armor can make a huge difference to your survival. Certain sets provide massive increases in poison or curse, fire, and magic resistance, which can make it easier to navigate through tough terrain. In general, the more defense you have for your character, the more health you will get from each point. Therefore, it is recommended to upgrade your armor.

You can upgrade your armor by visiting any of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four Great Fairy Fountains in the game, and to unlock them all, you have to complete an additional quest involving the Stable Trotters. After you've completed the main quest and the associated fountains, you'll be able to talk to any Great Fairy in order to unlock the menu for upgrading armor.

The amount of material needed to upgrade each piece of armor will vary. In general, you'll be looking at anything from three to five Red Chuchu jellies and 10 Rupees for the first upgrade, and then anywhere from five Rubies and 10 Fire-Breath Lizalfos Horns for each subsequent one. For example, the Champion Leathers can be upgraded to +5 defense, allowing you to keep up with a good-sized group of enemies in the majority of cold conditions and the Snowquill Headdress can be upgraded all the way to +20 defense, providing you enough protection to survive a full on raid with a few friends.

It's important to note that armor cannot be upgraded the same way as weapons, so you'll need to concentrate on upgrading it for physical power if you're a Warrior or Spell Power if you're Mage. It is recommended to save your armor upgrades to upgrade the armor that you'll still be wearing by the end of the story, for example the Ring of Lightning, Spectral Shield or the mask you wear in the final boss fight the Monter Parts Merchant Mask.

By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock perks for your armor. In general, you should keep these upgrades for the weapon you'll use to win the game like the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer, but it can be useful to have some upgrades to your chest armor and helmets that permit you to sneak past certain monsters.

Potions

Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the participant, produce a temporary effect for a short period of time. There are five kinds of potions, each with a specific set of effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded to improve their effectiveness. You can also enhance the effects of certain potions by adding redstone dust and glowstone dust.

Upgrades to trinkets are more expensive than other upgrades but still less expensive than purchasing new ones.
