WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give you boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random substat is also added to every upgrade.
The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades aren't as useful for the latter because of the requirement to roll a perfect version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.
You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to keep your equipment up to date.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from another player will costs 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and accessories. They are purchased by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade is able to be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will show the item's next upgrade level, if there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrades varies based on the slot of the
item upgrader mod and current
item level upgrade level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain amount, it can be degraded and returned to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currency types.
Many locations offer

The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.
Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit as well as a drawback.
In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and several new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a particular
item upgrader kit level for a particular armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level will cost less even when they are part of another set of gear.
The amount of Valorstones needed to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed for upgrades is reduced as well, but is only available after certain milestones are achieved.
Crests
When upgrading equipment in WoW players have a few choices. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specific and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are a crucial part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.
First, you should know that crests are only available for equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.
Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities, or by doing dungeons or raids in all difficulty levels to obtain lower-level gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with a heroic difficulty for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and pathways.
The use of these currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
Another notable change is that crests have one usage therefore it's essential to use them properly. It is best to use your Whelpling-rank Crests on the top-quality equipment you can find and keep Drake and Wyrm Crests for the next round of upgrades. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character, which will only be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount if all slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
