The bonus will be randomly chosen from the following options: an opportunity to acquire a weapon with an increased damage range or an enhanced reload speed or the chance to obtain a higher max defense roll.
The number of upgrades you perform will determine the amount of extras you receive. Each upgrade will increase the extras in question by an increment of 1 up to a maximum value of 3. Each upgrade will also increase the main stats by +1.

Costs
Upgrades have a few associated costs. The most significant cost is the upgrade itself. This price is contingent on the new ilvl of the item and the amount of perks it gains, and can be expensive. Upgrades to higher levels (such as Explorer to Champion or Veteran to Heroic) can be costly.
The second is the cost of the materials required to upgrade. These items are typically Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons, or specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords Of Draenor Quests. The quantity of these items required is available in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
It takes time to upgrade an item. Depending on the size of the upgrade, it can take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours. This calculation determines the updated Armor Class bonus, damage dice, as well as other important stats. In some instances an upgrade may grant additional benefits. These perks are listed in a list.
In rare instances the upgrade will only replace the highest-costing benefits. Sometimes, the upgrader will make other modifications to an item, such as changing its weapon damage type or or removing an unwieldy or operative property. These modifications are based on the item's ilvl, and may require special materials, for instance the adamantine.
